CELEBRATING AND INSPIRING GREATNESS IN PEOPLE: SANDRA NAMUSABI

Sandra making for the team a Meal. This video was shot and put together by Cedric Bichano. Cedric is being mentored by the team at Malaika Media so that he goes back to Nakivale refugee settlement to support the young people over there.

In the beginning, we didn’t have a meal at work. We were in survival mode with little extra finances to cater for that. I very much wanted to provide a meal for everyone without them struggling just like I didn’t on my first job at Hospice Africa Uganda. Food culture was one of those strong elements that bonded the teams. Different departments caught up at the 1-hour lunch break to discuss life. Food influences group dynamics and interactions. Today, I want to celebrate Sandra Namusabi, the person that nourishes our bodies and quenches our thirst at Malaika Media.

Words are sweet, but they never take the place of food.

Ibo proverb

Julie Mirembe ushered in Sandra at Malaika Media two years ago. Over this period, she has managed to influence our productivity positively. I am so impressed with her on-time and meal-planning skills every single day. Sandra comes to work on a regular basis, and I am fascinated with her consistency with her food. One of us once commented during a meeting, “Sandra’s food is now international” hahaha. Okay, how do international meals look like? I am happy to mention that at Malaika Media we eat international food courtesy of Sandra …lol.

I want to say that while some of us may be really good at photography, video production, photo editing, video editing, scripting, creative directing etc, Sandra has mastered the culinary skill and we are not complaining. No one can know everything but everyone knows something.

He who does not know one thing knows another.

African Proverb

Research shows that food influences mental health, teamwork, and even hard measures such as financial performance and absenteeism. Food culture is crucial to organization performance. Eating better and eating together influences engagement and moral. When people feel like they belong, productivity and employee retention increase. As a result, bottom-up profits go up.
