Malaika profiles : Kennedy Oreste

We boast of a vibrant and passionate team at Malaika media and that’s why we choose to tell our story. We deemed it necessary to put an identity behind the faces that tell the stories of so many. Our first “tell our story” feature is a rather laid back but interesting character.

Kennedy Oreste, popularly known as Ken, is the first of the bunch and this is what he had to share when we had a chat with him;

His Role

Ken is a production assistant and photographer with Malaika media; who has been part of the team since 2017. He acknowledges the immense personal and professional growth that has happened to him in the past 2 years of his service with the company.

What his typical day is like

“It usually depends on whether I am in the field or having a day at the office honestly, so it varies”

On a regular office day, he turns on his computer as soon as he reaches office and goes through his previous works. This is something he terms as visual impression where he does a self assessment to see where he could have done better or how he can improve on his skills.

He then sets goals for his day on tasks that need to be done and doesn’t leave the office until he has accomplished them – testament to the dedication he puts into his work.

His experience with Malaika Media

“When it comes to Malaika Media, the first thing I appreciate is the fact that everyday is a learning experience – in the kind of field we are, you have to keep learning.”

Phot by Museruka Emmanuel

With more experienced personnel such as Emmanuel Museruka, Ken has had the opportunity to grow himself across all spheres. He remembers coming to Malaika Media when he couldn’t even take a basic photo but now has the ability to spearhead projects on his own.

Fondest moments so far

When asked this question, he struggles to choose – after a while, he picks out his first project in 2018 as something that made him feel proud as well as when he got the opportunity to spear head a video production project on his own. Two exciting moments that he looks back at with so much pride.

What stood out with Malaika Media that sets it apart

Malaika Media is more than just a company to him, it is a family that gives the opportunity for growth in all aspects of life as well as the friendships. Factors he says aren’t easily found in every work environment.

Hobbies /Passions

“I love video games, I am a passionate gamer. I take part in sports especially football whenever I have the chance and I try to hangout whenever I have time.” Ken says.

Deduction

What stands out for me while speaking to Ken is his passion and the hunger to learn something new always. It is important to stay fresh, updated and relevant in whatever craft one does.
