The feeling of a sudden uncontrollable urge to move, The Nyege Nyege festival is fast stamping its name as one of the biggest music festivals in Uganda. And the recently concluded edition at the Nile Discovery Resort, Jinja, was testimony to that. The 3-day event hosted close to 300 artistes from across the world each exciting the crowds from any of the 4 stages. The hordes of revelers that thronged the Nile Discovery were to party and revel in the experiences, alcohol, the snacks especially the famous Ugandan chapatti and fried-eggs roll famously known as the Rolex.
The Rolex stalls, beer selling points and Nyege Nyege spirits were beckoning everyone there to partake in the ongoing hub of activity. The fashion exhibited was simply an extravaganza rendering the judgmental daggers speechless. Experimentation in personal styles was the order of the day. Notwithstanding the cliché outfits that were spotted, on display were the eye catching popular African Kitenge fabrics. Experimentation was simply the order of the day. Beautiful bodies were on display with men with chiseled bodies having a field day with shirts-off day, and ladies in skimpy sexy outfits. No one would blame you for not covering up if you had a body that good looking. You didn’t need to dress up to be deemed fashionable.
In typical Ugandan weather fashion, it rained and it poured. This down pour could not dampen the Nyege Nyege Spirit. The more it rained, the more the revelers got merrier. They danced to the musical performances in vicious downpours. But the only drench they felt was that of the liquor they were imbibing.
